Kodak Library of Creative Photography – Redesign

I was asked to redesign dust covers for a book series that spoke to my own interests. Using just two books from a series, how can I show off the content of the books and create a narrative?

I chose two books from the 1980s Kodak Library of Creative Photography series and shot 35mm film for the photography, researched fonts and grease pencil markings, and scanned my true film reels. The scanned film reels were put into InDesign, and I edited the text to have the proper titles. I laser cut the perf sprockets and included a Kodak yellow sleeve behind the cover for dimension.

The redesigned Kodak books had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from my classmates. People enjoyed feeling the laser cut sprockets and moving it in the light to see the shadows cast onto the yellow sleeve below. The choice to shoot the covers in 35mm and scan in the film strip was also praised, as using digital media would not have had the same effect.
